Overtime Calculator

Calculate overtime pay at time-and-a-half or double time and total gross pay.

Quick answer

How do you calculate time and a half?

Multiply your hourly rate by 1.5 to get the overtime rate, then multiply by overtime hours. At $20/hour, time and a half is $30/hour; working 46 hours pays 40 × $20 + 6 × $30 = $980.

  1. Overtime rate = hourly rate × 1.5.
  2. Overtime hours = total hours − 40.
  3. Total = 40 × rate + overtime hours × overtime rate.
  4. Example: $20/h, 46 hours → $800 + $180 = $980.

Overtime pay = hourly rate × 1.5 × overtime hours • Total = regular pay + overtime pay + double-time pay
