Margin Calculator
Profit margin, markup, and selling price from your cost.
Quick answer
How do you calculate profit margin?
Subtract cost from price, then divide by price. An item that costs $60 and sells for $100 has $40 profit: 40 ÷ 100 = 40% margin. Markup divides by cost instead: 40 ÷ 60 = 66.67% markup.
Profit = price − cost. Margin = profit ÷ price × 100. Markup = profit ÷ cost × 100. Price for a margin = cost ÷ (1 − margin).
⚡ Answer updates as you type · Enter = calculate · Esc = reset
- Profit = price − cost = $100.00 − $60.00 = $40.00
- Margin = profit ÷ price = $40.00 ÷ $100.00 = 40%
- Markup = profit ÷ cost = $40.00 ÷ $60.00 = 66.67%
- Margin is always smaller than markup because it divides by the bigger number (price).
