Volume Calculator
Volume of cubes, boxes, cylinders, spheres, cones, and pyramids.
Quick answer
How do you calculate volume?
Multiply the area of the base by the height. A box is length × width × height (2 × 3 × 4 = 24 cubic units). A cylinder is π × radius² × height: r = 3 cm, h = 5 cm gives about 141.37 cm³. Cones and pyramids are one third of that.
Cube V = a³. Box V = l × w × h. Cylinder V = πr²h. Sphere V = 4/3 πr³. Cone V = 1/3 πr²h. Pyramid V = 1/3 × l × w × h.

- Formula: V = π r² h
- Substitute: V = π × 3² × 10
- V = 282.7433 cm³
- Convert: 282.7433 cm³ = 0.0003 m³ = 0.2827 L (1 m³ = 1,000 L).
Find the volume of a cube, box, cylinder, sphere, cone, or pyramid in any unit, with liters and gallons and the formula worked out step by step.
About this Volume Calculator
The Volume Calculator finds the volume of a cube, box (rectangular prism), cylinder, sphere, cone, or pyramid in mm, cm, m, inches, feet, or yards. It also converts the answer to liters, US gallons, and cubic meters — handy for tanks, pools, boxes, concrete, and geometry homework.
What you'll need
- • Shape
- • Unit (mm, cm, m, in, ft, yd)
- • Dimensions: edge, length, width, height, or radius
How it works
- 1. Choose the shape and unit.
- 2. Enter the measurements shown in the picture.
- 3. The calculator applies the shape's formula.
- 4. Read the volume in cubic units, liters, and gallons.
- 5. Check the substituted formula in the steps.
Worked example
A cylindrical tank has radius 3 ft and height 10 ft: V = π × 3² × 10 ≈ 282.74 ft³, which is about 8,006 liters or 2,115 US gallons.

Volume Calculator FAQ
What is the Volume Calculator?
The Volume Calculator is a free online tool that helps you volume of cubes, boxes, cylinders, spheres, cones, and pyramids.
How do I use the Volume Calculator?
Open the Volume Calculator, enter the requested values, and review the instant estimate on the page.
Is the Volume Calculator free?
Yes. The Volume Calculator is free to use on Fast Online Calculator and does not require an account.
How do I find volume in liters?
Calculate volume in cubic centimeters and divide by 1,000, or in cubic meters and multiply by 1,000. The calculator converts automatically.
How many gallons are in a cubic foot?
One cubic foot holds about 7.48 US gallons, and one cubic meter holds about 264.17 US gallons.
What if I know the diameter instead of the radius?
Divide the diameter by 2 to get the radius, then enter that. A 10-inch diameter pipe has a 5-inch radius.
Why is a cone one third of a cylinder?
A cone with the same base and height as a cylinder holds exactly one third of its volume, so V = 1/3 πr²h. Pyramids work the same way compared with prisms.
