LCM Calculator
Find the least common multiple of 2+ numbers with steps.
Quick answer
How do you find the LCM of two numbers?
List multiples until they match, or use primes. Multiples of 4: 4, 8, 12… multiples of 6: 6, 12… so LCM(4, 6) = 12. With primes, take each at its highest power: 4 = 2², 6 = 2 × 3, LCM = 2² × 3 = 12.
LCM = product of every prime that appears, each at its highest power. For two numbers: LCM(a, b) = (a × b) ÷ GCF(a, b).

- Method 1 — list multiples until one appears in every list:
- 4: 4, 8, 12, 16, 20, 24, 28…
- 6: 6, 12, 18, 24, 30…
- 8: 8, 16, 24, 32…
- Method 2 — prime factorization:
- 4 = 2^2
- 6 = 2 × 3
- 8 = 2^3
- Take every prime at its highest power: LCM = 2^3 × 3 = 24
Find the least common multiple (LCD) of 2 or more numbers using the listing method and prime factorization, step by step.
About this LCM Calculator
The LCM Calculator finds the least common multiple of two or more whole numbers — the smallest number they all divide into. It shows the listing-multiples method and the prime factorization method, and is the fastest way to find a least common denominator (LCD) for adding fractions.
What you'll need
- • Two or more whole numbers separated by commas
How it works
- 1. Type your numbers separated by commas.
- 2. See the first multiples of each number.
- 3. See each number broken into primes.
- 4. The calculator multiplies the highest powers.
- 5. Read the LCM and the check formula.
Worked example
LCM of 4, 6, and 8: 4 = 2², 6 = 2 × 3, 8 = 2³. Highest powers are 2³ and 3, so LCM = 8 × 3 = 24.

LCM Calculator FAQ
What is the LCM Calculator?
The LCM Calculator is a free online tool that helps you find the least common multiple of 2+ numbers with steps.
How do I use the LCM Calculator?
Open the LCM Calculator, enter the requested values, and review the instant estimate on the page.
Is the LCM Calculator free?
Yes. The LCM Calculator is free to use on Fast Online Calculator and does not require an account.
What is the LCM of 6 and 8?
24. 6 = 2 × 3 and 8 = 2³, so LCM = 2³ × 3 = 24.
What is the difference between LCM and LCD?
The least common denominator is the LCM of the denominators. To add 1/6 + 1/8, the LCD is LCM(6, 8) = 24.
How are LCM and GCF related?
For two numbers, GCF × LCM = a × b. For 4 and 6: GCF 2 × LCM 12 = 24 = 4 × 6.
When do I use LCM in real life?
Whenever repeating events line up — buses every 12 and 18 minutes leave together every LCM(12, 18) = 36 minutes.
